Juan Pablo Hernandez is an El Paso–based glass artist with more than two decades of experience in lampworking and flameworking. His interest in glass began in childhood, where he was deeply influenced by the traditional glassblowers working in the local mercados of Cuidad Juárez. In 2001, Hernandez received his foundational training in San Diego, California, studying borosilicate glass techniques under the instruction of his brother.
After returning to El Paso, Hernandez continued to refine his craft, drawing inspiration from the cultural identity and natural environment of the Southwest. His work has been featured at local markets, art events, and community spaces throughout the region. He is committed to advancing both his artistic practice and the accessibility of glass art in his community.
Hernandez currently teaches introductory glassblowing to children in local schools, fostering early artistic exploration and helping preserve the traditions that first inspired him. His work reflects a deep respect for craft, culture, ecologies, and the transformative nature of working with flame and glass.
